Honey is a special case. Honey was rescued from a slaughterhouse in South Korea by Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation just a few months ago and showed signs of both physical and emotional abuse. While some dogs miraculously bounce back from their extreme situations, it’s taking Honey some time to adjust and build trust with humans again.
About Animal Hope and Wellness:
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on rescuing dogs from the meat trade throughout Asia. They rescue these dogs, fly them to Los Angeles, and then provide full rehabilitation services. These dogs are cared for in the no-kill shelter, put into foster homes when ready, and ultimately adopted into loving homes.
The dog meat industry in Asia is not cultural and it is not humane. Due to a widely held belief that high adrenaline levels will produce tender meat and increase the supposed health benefits of consuming dog meat, the slaughterhouse dogs are tortured and experience extreme fear for up to 40 hours prior to death. When Animal Hope and Wellness rescues these dogs, they often show severe signs of physical abuse and are very emotionally distraught. The rehabilitation process is not short nor simple, but the passionate volunteers at Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation have successfully rehabilitated hundreds of dogs.
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation also opens its doors to abused and tortured dogs and cats locally. The animals they rescue from the streets of Los Angeles have been beaten, kicked, shot, run over, used for gang initiations and have been waiting for the day that someone would come to save them. To rehabilitate these animals takes immense amounts of patience and compassion, two attributes that Animal Hope and Wellness volunteers uphold.
